966A-L3/DP ~ TRUNK SIGNALING ANALYZER TEST SET

APPLICATIONS:

A real benefit for Feature Group D testing.
Display of single and multiple records.
Great for TSPS, ANI, 911, IDDD and ABC for two stage pulsing such as
          ANI, TSPS, or IDDD.
Each stage is treated as a separate record.

Trap Intermittants: -- The 966A has the ability to trap intermittent signaling problems by automatically jumping from AUTO reset to hold when a problem condition is detected.  With the printer, the problem condition is provided on hard copy, then the 966A returns to AUTO.

Examine mutilated MF & DTMF digits, digit timing and digit power levels.
Printer Interface provides hard copy digit timing, power, wink timing, and addressing.
The 966A is particularly useful for detecting signaling problems being transmitted or
   received by the switch.

CUTOVER TOOL FOR DIGITAL SWITCHES

The 966A is the ideal test set for the cutover of digital switches, both CO and PBX. The 966A has been used satisfactorily by manufacturers of 5ESSTM**, DMS-10--, DMS-1OOTM ***, and GTDX5TM**** switches.  The Digital Package enables the test set to interface directly with individual trunks on T-1 span lines in either a monitoring or drop-and-insert mode. This allows testing of both originating and terminating trunks at the DSX jack bay.

With printer interface, hard copy from these same locations can also be gathered for information on timing, including digit and interdigit timing, wink timing, and complete call sequence timing record starting with the originating end off-hook signal. Addressing and digit power are also provided.

The instrument receives and displays up to 64 digits of MF, DTMF and DP pulsing. Originating and Terminating office supervision is continuously displayed before, during and after outpulsing has occurred. Individual MF and DTMF pulses are measured for length and amplitude and can be checked against preset limits. Mutilated MF pulses consisting of more or less than two tones are recorded as errors and can be individually examined for tone content. Missing KP and ST digits are also automatically identified.

PUT A COMPLETE TESTING SYSTEM IN EACH TECHNICIAN'S HANDS

Unlike any other test set, the 966A will interface at the 2-wire point, the 4-wire point and at the DSX bay. No other test set carries all those capabilities in one portable unit. Giving you a full view, the 966A shows you the condition of the supervision at the originating and terminating end.

There's more! This comprehensive test set performs calibrated MF signal analysis. It automatically anticipates MF, DTMF and DP and traps errors. And at a glance, your technicians can see the general status of carrier trunks.  No waiting for results! The printer lets you print unlimited separate events - up to three records per event. The 966A can transfer call progress sequence data to an on-site serial port printer, or off-site personnel can poll information on a remote terminal or P.C. and dump it to a remote printer.

966A-L3/DP TRUNK SIGNALING ANALYZER TEST SET

The 966A equipped with the Digital Package (DP) and Options A through C will provide the user with Dual Drop and Insert, DS1 BERT, DS0 BERT, and Call Sequence Analysis. Additionally, the analog functions of the existing set are not impacted, and in some cases are significantly enhanced. An Enhancement of the analog features would be a 966A without equal access software that is returned to service with this feature, and the Digital Package with Options A to C.

This example shows the 966A and Digital Package being used at the DSX Bay or Office Repeater. With the DP in the MONITOR Mode, pulsing and supervision on in-service trunks can be easily observed and checked for errors. Even difficult intermittent errors are easy to catch using the 966A's automatic error trapping feature. Trunks can be monitored in either the Originating or Terminating office to determine the source of signaling problems. The MONITOR Mode can also be used to detect and isolate function and supervision problems on individual trunks.

APPLICATIONS

 * Simulate signaling and transmission functions for end offices and PBX locations.
 * Simulate PSAP (91 1) functions towards the end office.
 * Provide test access point for DDS circuits that do not have an office access point.
 * Check feature group D trunks (send multiple winks, receive multiple records).
 * Monitor both analog and digital circuits for correct performance in
   a non-intrusive manner.
 * Incorporates hard contact access to the DS-1 test line, which provides a
normal through connection in case of power failure to the test set.
 * Continually monitors the incoming DS-1 test line for alarm and error conditions
and indicates the DS-1 test line status through front panel LED'S.
 * Offers a craftsperson access to the channelized data and supervision status that
is multiplexed onto a DS-1 signal.
 * Functions properly on DS-1 signals that are formatted in SF or ESF framing mode.
 * Supports both the bit 7 stuffing, and Bipolar line format.
 * Facilitates trunk testing with either an integrated trunk test set, or an external
   trunk or transmission test set.
 * During maintenance procedures, continuously monitors for error and alarm
conditions that may occur on a DS-1 signal and displays that information through
  the front panel.

When operating in the drop-and-insert mode, the VF data and supervision status is inserted onto the selected channel. All alarm and supervision functions are performed on the receive signal.

DIGITAL OPTION DESCRIPTIONS

DUAL DROP & INSERT, DS1 BERT - DIGITAL PACKAGE (DP)

This option comes equipped with two DS1 receivers and two DS1 transmitters that are fully independent of each other. This independence allows the user total control over how the test set is configured.

Configurations such as monitoring both sides of the span for ANSI 403 compliance, dropping out all 24 channels and their hook status in both directions at the same time, or performing a "split" application which controls both the network and the CPE directions at the same time, are possible.

The DS1 BERT option will measure and generate all of the traditional DS1 BERT patterns. These patterns can be both framed and unframed. Provisions are made for user defined patterns to be accommodated.

DSO BERT (OPTION A): This option allows the user to generate and measure various DSO stress patterns such as 2047, 511, etc. The patterns can be inserted into any of the time slots. Also, various CSU/DSU loop up and loop down codes can be generated.

CALL SEQUENCE ANALYSIS (OPTION B): This option, using the 12 x 32 main display, can generate a summary report outlining the actions of the NETWORK and CPE directions of transmission. Questions about which side disconnected first, wink duration, false winks, false disconnects, mutilated digits, interdigit timing, etc. are answered.

VIRTUAL INSTRUMENT CONTROL (OPTION D): Provides full control of the test set from any location with a PC. The front panel and all functions are duplicated at--and can be operated from--the PC. Actions at the test set (and results displays) are observed at the PC. Works in Windows 3.1 or higher in a "point & click" mode which eliminates the detailed and tedious keyboard work of MML type remote control interfaces. Uses an external modem or direct RS-232 connection for communications. Line rates are available from 1.2 to 19.2 kbps.

NOTE: The VIC option does not control the 966A base unit--only the DP option.

SECURITY/LOGO PACKAGE (OPTION E): Company Logo and test set serial number are placed in the test set software and will appear on the first screen when the set is turned on. The Logo and serial number cannot be removed from the software.
